Subject: | NSA/AERI/C1 - Failure of AERI cryogenic cooler |
DataStreams: | nsaaeriC1.00, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1 |
Description: | The cryogenic cooler current reached its maximum value, which indicates a potential failure of the cooler unit. The effect of the cooler failure is an increase in detector temperature. Detector temperature is normally 69K. At temperatures in excess of 72K, the long wave responsivity decreases due to detector noise. During the period of March 27, 2003 @ 21:02 GMT through April 10, 2003 @ 23:42 GMT, the cooler current was at its maximum and detector temperatures varied from 72-75K. The increase in detector noise may affect some calculations. |
Suggestions: | Users need to determine the minimum requirements for long wave responsivity. The metadata accessable in Netcdf (NCEexplorer) contains long wave responsivities for this data. The user can then determine if the long wave responsivity during this period is of acceptable quality. Because the detector did not heat beyond 75K, the data quality will probably be acceptable. |
