Description: | Beginning in late December 1995, the battery voltage at E13 EBBR rose
above 15 volts at times, and reached more than 17 volts at times by early
February 1996. The qc flag for voltage (17 V) was exceeded in February and
automatically reported in the site operations log. However, no effect on the
data has occurred. The flag serves to alert the mentor and site operations
that there is a problem. Damage to the CR10 datalogger and the sensors may
begin to occur at 17 to 18 volts. The solar panel (used to charge the EBBR
batteries) regulator is designed to limit voltage output to the battery,
and thus the battery voltage, to 14.5 V.
The solar panel regulator was changed in the EBBR system.
Regulator failure is almost always the cause of this problem.
Note: The end date for this DQR was provided by the mentor at a later time. |
