TWP/SMET/C3 - Lower Wind Direction Intermittently Wrong
DataStreams:twpsmet60sC3.b1
Description:
The lower wind sensor cabling had a problem causing an intermittent connection for the
wind direction data.
Measurements:twpsmet60sC3.b1:
  • Lower sensor, wind direction vector average(lo_dir_vec_avg)
  • Lower sensor, wind direction standard deviation(lo_dir_sd)

TWP/SMET/C2 - ORG rainfall measurements too large
DataStreams:twpsmet60sC2.b1
Description:
The ORG was collecting large amounts of rainfall compared to the co-located tipping bucket
raingauge. The cable was chewed by mice causing the wires to make contact
intermittently mimicking rainfall.
Measurements:twpsmet60sC2.b1:
  • Precipitation maximum(precip_max)
  • Precipitation mean(precip_mean)
  • precipitation minimum(precip_min)
  • Precipitation standard deviation(precip_sd)

TWP/SKYRAD/C1 - Tracker Failure
DataStreams:twpskyrad20sC1.a0, twpskyrad60sC1.b1
Description:
The solar tracker at C1 failed to wake up the morning of 6/10 approximately 2000GMT. Ops
discovered problem and reset tracker 6/12 approximately 0800GMT.

Tracker dependent instrument data is inaccurate - this includes the short_direct (NIP) and
down_short_diffuse_hemisp (8-48). The down_short_hemisp (PSP) and down_long_hemisp (PIR)
are unaffected.
Measurements:twpskyrad20sC1.a0:
  • Instantaneous Direct Normal Shortwave Irradiance, Pyheliometer Thermopile
    Voltage(inst_direct_normal)
  • Instantaneous Uncorrected Downwelling Shortwave Diffuse, Shaded Pyranometer
    Thermopile Voltage(inst_diffuse)

twpskyrad60sC1.b1:
  • Downwelling Shortwave Hemispheric Irradiance, Pyranometer, Standard Deviation(down_short_diffuse_hemisp_std)
  • Shortwave Direct Normal Irradiance, Pyrgeometer, Standard Deviation(short_direct_normal_std)
  • Downwelling Shortwave Diffuse Hemispheric Irradiance, Ventilated Pyranometer,
    Maxima(down_short_diffuse_hemisp_max)
  • Downwelling Shortwave Diffuse Hemispheric Irradiance, Ventilated Pyranometer,
    Minima(down_short_diffuse_hemisp_min)
  • Shortwave Direct Normal Irradiance, Pyrgeometer, Maxima(short_direct_normal_max)
  • Shortwave Direct Normal Irradiance, Pyrgeometer, Minima(short_direct_normal_min)
  • Shortwave Direct Normal Irradiance, Pyrgeometer(short_direct_normal)
  • Downwelling Shortwave Diffuse Hemispheric Irradiance, Ventilated Pyranometer(down_short_diffuse_hemisp)

TWP/SMET/C3 - Upper wind speed data incorrect
DataStreams:twpsmet60sC3.b1
Description:
Beginning on 07/08, the upper wind sensor started reporting significantly lower wind
speeds than the lower wind sensor. The cable connections weather proofing failed allowing
corrosion to occur and increasing he resistance of the cables. This in turn lowered the
wind speeds artificially.
Measurements:twpsmet60sC3.b1:
  • Upper sensor, wind speed maximum(up_spd_max)
  • Upper sensor, wind speed arithmetic average(up_spd_arith_avg)
  • Upper sensor, wind speed minimum(up_spd_min)
  • Upper sensor, wind speed vector average(up_spd_vec_avg)
  • Upper sensor, wind speed standard deviation(up_spd_sd)

TWP/SKYRAD/C1 - PIR2 ventilator fan failure
DataStreams:twpskyrad20sC1.a0, twpskyrad60sC1.b1
Description:
During the time range specified the PIR2 output is questionable due to ventilator fan
failure. Although the PIR is temperature compensated, data review indicates that the PIR2
didn't compare as well with PIR1. Typical differences during full sun are approximately 10
w/m2. During this time period differences of 10-14 W/m2 were noted.
Measurements:twpskyrad20sC1.a0:
  • Instantaneous Downwelling Pyrgeometer Case Thermistor Resistance, Pyrgeometer2(inst_down_long_hemisp2_case_resist)
  • Instantaneous Downwelling Pyrgeometer Thermopile, Pyrgeometer2(inst_down_long_hemisp2_tp)
  • Instantaneous Downwelling Pyrgeometer Dome Thermistor Resistance, Pyrgeometer2(inst_down_long_hemisp2_dome_resist)

twpskyrad60sC1.b1:
  • Instantaneous Downwelling Pyrgeometer Case Thermistor Temperature, Pyrgeometer2(inst_down_long_hemisp2_case_temp)
  • Downwelling Longwave Hemispheric Irradiance, Pyrgeometer2, Minima(down_long_hemisp2_min)
  • Downwelling Longwave Hemispheric Irradiance, Pyrgeometer2(down_long_hemisp2)

TWP/SONDE/C2 - Bad RH values throughout sounding
DataStreams:twpsondewnpnC2.b1
Description:
RH values fluctuate largely in a stepping function throughout the sounding. Suspect bad
RH sensors.
Measurements:twpsondewnpnC2.b1:
  • Relative humidity inside the instrument enclosure(rh)
