Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E19 - Data not quality assured |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE19.a0, sgpmfrsrE19.b1 |
Description: | Data from October 1, 1999 through March 2001 from MFRSR.E19 should be used with caution. During this time period only minimal quality control and maintenance were provided to the SGP extended facility MFRSRs because these data were considered to be of questionable value under the best of circumstances. That decision was reversed in 2001 when Joe Michalsky identified a means to make the MFRSR data scientifically useable. In the interim, the MFRSRs developed problems with shading, leveling, calibration and all-out hardware failures and the stock of spare MFRSRs was depleted and not replenished. Most of the shading and leveling problems have now been corrected in the field as well as possible, but almost all of the extended facilty MFRSRs still need to be recalibrated or replaced. |

Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E19 - Channel 940 not functional |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE19.a0, sgpmfrsrE19.b1 |
Description: | There was an instrument failure on 20000916. When the instrument came back on-line on 20001020, channel 940 was not functioning. Due to a lack of spare parts, this condition persisted until 20040613 when the instrument failed completely. |

Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E10 - Heater controller problem |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE10.00, sgpmfrsrE10.a0, sgpmfrsrE10.b1 |
Description: | Right from the start of the installation of the new system the data were noisy. It appeared that the problem was with the logger program and an incorrect range setting. It turned out the issue was a faulty heater board. The heater boards can cause noisy data when they fail. It wasn't obvious because the head temp was very stable at 40 deg C. Replacing the board solved the noise problem. |

DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE10.a0, sgpmfrsrE10.b1, sgpmfrsraod1michE10.c1 |
Description: | Beginning on 11/25, there was a shading issue affecting data from sunrise to 1700 UTC. The issue diminished into December, becoming essentially unnoticeable by 12/10. Data are usable until 12/25 when the shading issue returned, this time much worse. All data until 20100107, when maintenance resolved the problem, should be avoided. |

Description: | At some point between 20100131 and 20100204 the shadowband slipped on the motor shaft. The cause is more than likely icing on the instrument. We can't pinpoint when this happened as there are several continuous overcast days. Day 20100205 was clear, so we know it occurred before then. |
