Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E12 - Data not quality assured |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE12.a0, sgpmfrsrE12.b1 |
Description: | Data from October 1, 1999 through March 2001 from MFRSR.E12 should be used with caution. During this time period only minimal quality control and maintenance were provided to the SGP extended facility MFRSRs because these data were considered to be of questionable value under the best of circumstances. That decision was reversed in 2001 when Joe Michalsky identified a means to make the MFRSR data scientifically useable. In the interim, the MFRSRs developed problems with shading, leveling, calibration and all-out hardware failures and the stock of spare MFRSRs was depleted and not replenished. Most of the shading and leveling problems have now been corrected in the field as well as possible, but almost all of the extended facilty MFRSRs still need to be recalibrated or replaced. |

DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE12.a0, sgpmfrsrE12.b1, sgpmfrsrlangleyE12.c1, sgpmfrsrlangplotE12.c1 |
Description: | On 9/3/2005 the instrument was abruptly knocked out of alignment. Shading problems were severe enough that the mentor recommends not using data during the period of this DQR. Note that at the time of maintenance on 9/27 there is evidence that even the hemispheric data were effected which is why those data are flagged in this DQR. The maintenance on 9/27/2005 resolved the problem. |

Description: | A shading problem began abruptly on 10/9/2005. Typically, shading issues creep up, so it is likely an event occurred sometime on 10/9 that knocked the instrument slightly out of alignment. Between the hours of 1600 - 2359 UTC data are affected. Maintenance on 10/25 corrected the problem. This DQR only runs through 10/24 as the maintenance on 10/25 corrected the problem before shading problems began on that day. |

Description: | Beginning on 11/25, there was a shading issue affecting data from sunrise to 1700 UTC. The issue diminished into December, becoming essentially unnoticeable by 12/10. Data are usable until 12/25 when the shading issue returned, this time much worse. All data until 20100107, when maintenance resolved the problem, should be avoided. |
