               The data were reprocessed by Dave Turner to apply an improved 
               near-field correction ("overlap correction") to the water
               vapor data collected by the Raman lidar during IHOP.  These
               files contain only the water vapor data; users who require the
               aerosol and cloud fields from this instrument will need to
               retrieve the regular ARM data sets.

Description:
The sensitivity of the Raman Lidar degraded significantly beginning in late 2001.  Between 
May and September 2004, the electronics were upgraded and the telescope was refurbished 
resulting in sensitivity better than when the instrument system was first installed.

A detailed technical report describing the effects of the signal degradation and the steps 
taken to correct the problem is being written.  In the interim, contact Dave Turner

Severe storms and a tornado passed very near the E31 facility on 4/15.  Something happened 
that caused the data covered by this DQR to look very strange.  The instrument must have 
physically shifted.  Standard alignment procedures on 4/24 resolved the issue.  The site 
ops technician found the shadowband was bent out of shape by the storm.

A fuse on the motor controller board failed, resulting in the shadowband not functioning.  
Fuse was replaced on 5/17 just before 1600 UTC.  DQR runs until sunset that day (so ends 
on 5/18 at 0130 UTC).  There was a shading issue evident the afternoon the fuse was 
replaced.  That was resolved the next day.

layer ice water path, so the cld_iwp variable is correct.

Multiply cld_lwp by a factor of 45 to get the correct cloud layer liquid water path.

For reasons not entirely understood, on or about Oct 28, 2012 the MFRSR AOD Value Added 
Product began to experience infrequent but serious data corruption issues.  This is evident 
in the data files from SGP as irradiance fields, calibrations, and AODs taking nonsense 
values – sometimes NaN, Inf, or other values orders of magnitude out of bounds with 
normal behavior.  The behavior is sometimes abrupt with drastic changes observed from one day 
to the next, but not within a given day.  This behavior was not reproducible when 
reprocessing on the development system. 

We have developed a new version of the MFRSR AOD Value Added Product using a different 
library suite and have confirmed successful reproduction of the existing product when the 
existing product was not corrupt, and consistent replacement of the corrupt periods with 
reliable results.

Description:
The qc_airmass field indicates that values in the airmass field are set to -9999, the 
missing_value, when qc_airmass = 1 (QC bit 1 has tripped). In reality, the values are set to 
-1 and will not be filtered out by programs that automatically remove missing values. 
This will be fixed in a future reprocessing task.
