ENA/AOS/C1 - AOS Instrument Repair, Calibration and Modification: Mentor Site Visit

There was visit of 7 AOS instrument mentors to the ENA AOS during this period of 
instrument repair, calibration and modification. Instruments were occasionally off, or with no 
sample flow, or receiving calibration samples, etc. There was no productive sampling of 
ambient air during this period other than for testing. No data should be used for this period 
as ambient samples.

Note: Two datastream are missing. The CAPS Extinction Monitor and the Greenhouse gas 
instrument.

ENA/CPC/C1 - Instrument problem

Vacuum was lost very briefly to the instrument for an unknown reason.  The instrument then 
showed evidence of flooding by an increase in the frequency of the butanol fill cycles, 
increase in nozzle pressure, and decrease in orifice pressure.

ENA/CPC/C1 - Instrument problem

It was found that the wrong vacuum source was connected to the vacuum port on the CPC and 
didn't provide enough pull for the instrument to run correctly.  While the problem was 
being rectified, there was a period where the CPC was sampling from the instrument cabin 
and not from the ambient.  Therefore data during this time is not representative of the 
ambient concentration of aerosol in the atmosphere and should not be used as such.

ENA/CPC/C1 - Instrument Not Sampling due to repair and calibration

During this period the CPC was shipped back to the manufacturer to mitigate damage due to 
flooding. The instrument was found to be flooded. Repair and calibration was performed. 
Most of the down time was related to delays in shipment due to customs on Terceira Island.

ENA/CPC/C1 - Data reprocessed to account for vacuum port too low

Recorded calibrations relating the effect on flow of reduced nozzle and orifice pressure 
was used to correct the data.

When the CPC was put back in operation, the external vacuum port was connected to a vacuum 
line, which didn't provide enough pull.

level

End to end reprocessing to generate new a1 datastreams is needed so that when the 
harmonization software is released to production, we will be ready with the a1 datastreams that

ENA/C1 - Reprocess: Slightly incorrect location fields

Some of the instruments are being processed with the previous "GRW-Azores" lat/lon/alt 
instead of the new "ENA-Azores" lat/lon/alt. The differences are minor, but will be 
corrected. The respective GRW and ENA lat, lon, and alt values are as follows:
