NSA/AERI/C1 - Loss of Temperature Stabilization
DataStreams:nsaaerich1C1.a1, nsaaerich2C1.a1, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
Instrument lost temperature stabilization on 4/19 @ 1700 and data became
very noisy and was shut down at 2300 (GMT). Turned back on 4/21 still look like detector
temperature is to high, data very noisy. Production of good data resumed on 05/01/01.

NSA/AERI/C1 - External Temperature Sensor Failed
DataStreams:nsaaerich1C1.a1, nsaaerich2C1.a1, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
There appear to have been some problem with the external temperature sensor. The outside
temperature sensor data is not used in the derivation of the spectral IR data and are just
a diagnostic tool. We have not found what
caused this behaviour.

NSA/AERI/C1 - AERI extended range detector at Barrow
DataStreams:nsaaerich1C1.a1, nsaaerich2C1.a1, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
The extended range detector had failed and a borrowed replacement detector was installed.
The replacement detector had enough air present in the dewar to cause the cryogenic
cooler to work at full current. The detector was still warmer than optimal and there is more
noise present in the data than is considered normal. The data must be used with
discretion. The system was shut off on 020516 due to noise and rising detector temperatures.

Subject:
NSA/AERI/C1 - Failure of AERI cryogenic cooler
DataStreams:nsaaerich1C1.a1, nsaaerich2C1.a1, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
In January 2003, the cryogenic cooler current for the Barrow, AERI detector was steadily
increasing. This increase is a sign of cooler failure. On January 16,2003, the cooler
began to make noise. The cooler was shut-off on January 17,2003 and any condensed gases were
allowed to vent. Condensed gases in the detector dewar cause a cooler to work harder and
increase the current. The cooler was then resealed and turned on. However, the cooler did
not recover and the current was at a maximum. The cooler was unable to completely cool
the detector and the detector never achieved a temperature below 72K. Higher detector
temperature increases instrument noise. The instrument was shut off on January 20, 2003 at
1835GMT to prevent a catatrophic failure due to complete cooler failure and
repressurization of the detector dewar, which would result in a subsequent implosion of the dewar.

NSA/AERI/C1 - Failure of AERI cryogenic cooler
DataStreams:nsaaeriC1.00, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
The cryogenic cooler current reached its maximum value, which indicates a potential
failure of the cooler unit. The effect of the cooler failure is an increase in detector
temperature. Detector temperature is normally 69K. At temperatures in excess of 72K, the long
wave responsivity decreases due to detector noise. During the period of March 27, 2003 @
21:02 GMT through April 10, 2003 @ 23:42 GMT, the cooler current was at its maximum and
detector temperatures varied from 72-75K. The increase in detector noise may affect some
calculations.

NSA/AERI/C1 - Data file header manipulated
DataStreams:nsaaerich1C1.a1, nsaaerich2C1.a1, nsaaerisummaryC1.a1, nsaaeriengineerC1.a1
Description:
The NSA.C1 AERI data for 19990321 and 19990324 were processed on
July 23, 2004 using version 1.24 of the ingest. This resulted
in the creation of .b1 level data files. Because the other March
1999 data are .a1 level data files, the .b1 files were modified
using nc_tools (nc_copy, ncvarrename, ncattcopy) to create .a1
level data files.

The data in the files were not changed in anyway. Only header
modifications were made. The user may notice small header differences
between these files and others from March 1999.
