DataStreams: | twpskyradC3.00, twpskyrad20sC3.a0, twpskyrad20sC3.a1, twpskyrad60sC3.b1 |
Description: | The Scitech solar tracker from SGP that was installed on 2005-12-01 after the previous tracker was damaged by lightning on 2005-11-14 has been hanging up every day at solar noon. In Feb, the sun moved from south to north and the Scitech tracker does not seem to be able to deal with this. During this period the operators power cycled the tracker between 05:00Z and 10:00Z almost every day and data from around solar noon (03:30Z) until the power cycle are unusable for the measurements that use the tracker (NIP, B&W Diffuse, and shaded PIRs). The problem was corrected when the Scitech tracker was replaced by a Brusag tracker on 2006-03-10. |

Subject: | TWP/SONDE/C2 - Bad RH in lower 8km |
DataStreams: | twpsondewnpnC2.b1 |
Description: | It appears that the RH sensor heating circuit failed during this sounding. The RH oscillates rapidly between low (~0 %RH) and not so low (ambient %RH) and the oscillation seems to stop when the temperature is below ~35 degC. According to Vaisala these are symptoms of failure in the ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) that controls the heating. |

DataStreams: | twpskyrad60sC2.b1 |
Description: | The IRT exhibited a bias of the analog voltage output that caused problems with the signals from the other SKYRAD radiometers. The bias was due to corrosion between the power and signal connections in the IRT cable. The IRT was disconnected on 10/18/2006 at 01:20 and replaced on 11/6/2006 at 23:00 but it too appeared to have grounding problems due to internal corrosion and was disconnected on 11/11/2006 at 11:42 and then intermittently reconnected for testing. Subject: | TWP/SONDE/C2 - Surface RH Value incorrect |
DataStreams: | twpsondewnpnC2.b1 |
Description: | The surface value entered by the observers for RH (96%) is incorrect. At the ascent time listed in the .ptu file the readings by the Sonde were around 65%. This low RH value is supported by the nearby SMET tower RH reading of 71.8%. This also caused the surface dew point to be incorrect. |

Subject: | TWP/SONDE/C2 - Surface RH too high |
DataStreams: | twpsondewnpnC2.b1 |
Description: | The surface Rh was entered as 94%. The ascent time has 72% and this value is supported by RH values from the nearby SMET system. This error also will affect the dew point. |

Subject: | TWP/SKYRAD/C2 - IRT calibration |
DataStreams: | twpskyrad60sC2.b1 |
Description: | The IRT was not properly calibrated and was not able to measure sky temperatures below 273.2 K. (This instrument was the same one damaged by lightning in November 2005 in Darwin. It was returned for repair and received a new lens but was calibrated only down to 0 deg C, so the problem was neither detected nor repaired.) The IRT was replaced on 2/22/2007. |

Subject: | TWP/GNDRAD/C2 - Reprocess: IRT calibration |
DataStreams: | twpgndrad60sC2.b1 |
Description: | The configuration of the IRT was set to that used at TWP/C3. This caused the calibration of the data to be wrong. It was corrected by reconfiguring the IRT to match the datalogger program. These data can be reprocessed and corrected by adding 10K, i.e. sfc_ir_temp(new) = sfc_ir_temp(old) + 10K. |
