Description: | Summary: Mentor suggests not using data from this period. If data from this period are important, read the following details to see if any might be useful. Details: The logger board was replaced late in the day on 20050921 and there were immediate problems. Channel 615 is too high and 500 is not functioning. At times in successive days 500 will appear for a bit in the morning and look OK, but then flat lines. This is typical behavior for ch 500 through 20060307. Ch 615 remains high through 20060307 as well. On 20051007 channel 940 drops out. From this day through 20060307 there are many days and times when 940 is flat. When it is functioning it looks OK. As far as the other channels go... They generally look OK, but when considering the problems with 500, 615 and 940, the mentor recommends a careful examination before any data are used. On 20060308 maintenance corrected the above problems with one minor exception. Between 20060309 and 20060318 channel 940 was still suffering from drop outs and flat lining. From 20060319 on all channels look OK. |

DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE3.00, sgpmfrsrE3.a0, sgpmfrsrE3.b1 |
Description: | A shading problem began suddenly just after 1900 UTC on 9/5/2005. The problem is hardly noticeable on 9/5, but is quite obvious on 9/6 even though that day is partly cloudy. Maintenance on 9/7/2005 corrected the problem. The mentor recommends not using direct or diffuse irradiance data during this period. |

Subject: | SGP/MFRSR/E3 - Data not quality assured |
DataStreams: | sgpmfrsrE3.a0, sgpmfrsrE3.b1 |
Description: | Data from October 1, 1999 through March 2001 from MFRSR.E3 should be used with caution. During this time period only minimal quality control and maintenance were provided to the SGP extended facility MFRSRs because these data were considered to be of questionable value under the best of circumstances. That decision was reversed in 2001 when Joe Michalsky identified a means to make the MFRSR data scientifically useable. In the interim, the MFRSRs developed problems with shading, leveling, calibration and all-out hardware failures and the stock of spare MFRSRs was depleted and not replenished. Most of the shading and leveling problems have now been corrected in the field as well as possible, but almost all of the extended facilty MFRSRs still need to be recalibrated or replaced. |

Description: | After the logger was replaced in January the head temp never rose to acceptable levels, staying just above 30 deg C. The head is designed to operate at a temp of 40 deg C. Generally it is considered OK within a few degrees of 40, but since this head is operating well below 40 a DQR is being written. It should be noted that the irradiance data look fine, and may in fact be fine, but users should be aware that the instrument is not operating within specifications. |
