Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E1 - Tracker inoperative |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE1.b1, sgpsirs20sE1.a0 |
Description: | After a data outage 01/13 through 01/15, the solar tracker was inoperative until site operations corrected on 01/20. Another apparent power problem may have caused the tracker to not restart the morning of 02/21. It was reset by site operations on 03/04. All tracker related datastreams are affected: short_direct_normal (NIP), down_short_diffuse_hemispheric (8-48) and possibly the down_long_hemispheric (PIR) although it is not apparent in the reviewed data for the affected timeframe. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E7 - NIP failure |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE7.a0, sgpsirsE7.b1 |
Description: | The short_direct_normal data were reported as -9999 during this time period. The start of the bad data from the NIP instrument on 05/12 coincides with a SMOS report of 2 inches of rain. NIP data are not recoverable. Users can calculate short_direct normal component using component sum method as follows (for each minute of available data): short_direct_normal = (down_short_hemisp - down_short_diffuse_hemisp)/cos(zenith angle) |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E27 - Reprocess: Incorrect calibration coefficients |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE27.a0, sgpsirsE27.b1 |
Description: | Logger reverted to previous years configuration, possibly due to power outage and non-current logger program in storage module. Note, the tracker had failed during this period as well. The configurations are as follows: Correct S/N and coefficients for this station during this time Diffuse PSP: 33268F3 PSP-US: 30811F3 NIP: 29578E6 PSP-DS: 30903F3 Diffuse PSP: 118.49 W/(m^2*mV) PSP-US: 116.66 W/(m^2*mV) NIP: 123.30 W/(m^2*mV) PSP-DS: 128.92 W/(m^2*mV) Incorrect S/N and coefficients applied during this time range. Diffuse PSP: 33366F3 PSP-US: 30961F3 NIP: 29009E6 PSP-DS: 20386F3 Diffuse PSP: 111.68 W/(m^2*mV) PSP-US: 111.85 W/(m^2*mV) NIP: 111.03 W/(m^2*mV) PSP-DS: 104.15 W/(m^2*mV) Data must be reprocessed for all shortwave instruments; longwave instruments are unaffected. The following corrections must be applied: down_short_diffuse_hemisp(new) = down_short_diffuse_hemisp(old) * 118.49/111.68 up_short_hemisp(new) = up_short_hemisp(old) * 116.66/111.85 short_direct_normal(new) = short_direct_normal(old) * 123.30 / 111.03 down_short_hemisp(new) = down_short_hemisp(old) * 128.92 / 104.15 |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E27 - Tracker failure |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE27.b1, sgpsirs20sE27.a0 |
Description: | Possible main power problem made may have caused the tracker to fail. Attempts to restart the old tracker, subsequent replacement and lack of spares contributed to incorrect data from the NIP (short_direct_normal datastream) and 8-48 (down_short_diffuse_hemisp datastream) until the time of site decommissioning. This facility was decommissioned and maintenance efforts ceased 10/1/2009. The instrument was removed from service 12/04/2009. Data are not recoverable. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E9 - Tracker failure |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE9.a0, sgpsirsE9.b1 |
Description: | The solar tracker was not functioning during these periods. During both failure events PM found the solar tracker in its parked position. PM reset the tracker and it resumed normal operations. Data from instruments directly reliant on tracker operations (short_direct_normal, down_short_diffuse_hemisp) are not recoverable. The longwave data should not be affected. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E3 - Multiplexer problem |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE3.a0, sgpsirsE3.b1 |
Description: | The down_short_hemisp, down_long_shaded_hemisp and up_long_hemisp values drop out and spike during this time period due to a failing multiplexer. The problem was progressive and after 9/19 the mux had completely failed and those values go completely missing. The problem was not resolved since the site was scheduled for decommissioning. Preventive maintenance was ended as of Oct 1 2009. The instrument was removed from service 20091028. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/C1 - Reprocessed: Upwelling shortwave |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sC1.a0, sgpsirsC1.b1 |
Description: | The upwelling shortwave hemispheric data were bad 20090914-20091009 due to a broken instrument cable. The cable was replaced on 10/09 at 1711 GMT but the leads were reversed. The leads were corrected 10/19 at 2001 GMT. The data for 20090914-20091019 have been reprocessed. The bad data from 20090914-20091009 were set to missing in the newly available reprocessed data set. The 20091009-20091019 data were corrected by applying a (-1) multiplier. |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E7 - Upwelling Longwave inconsistent |
DataStreams: | sgpsirsE7.b1, sgpsirs20sE7.a0 |
Description: | The upwelling IR PIR instrument (up_long_hemisp) had bad connections during this time period. The case thermistor (Mux set #2) was reading erratic values and corrupting the up_long_hemisp data completely. The net_ir was valid but cannot be corrected without the case thermistor measurement to determine the incoming IR (i.e. up_long_hemisp). |

Subject: | SGP/SIRS/E9 - Downwelling SW sensor alignment/level |
DataStreams: | sgpsirs20sE9.a0, sgpsirsE9.b1 |
Description: | On clear days, the down_short_hemisp data (PSP instrument) exhibit asymmetry in its daily output curve especially when compared to derived downwelling shortwave. Ops corrected the problem by re-leveling the PSP on 3/16/2010. The issue may likely be due to a slowly sinking platform at this site or inadvertent loosening of instrument hold down screws. Problem may have developed slowly over the last year. Corrections are not easily quantifiable. Suggest using derived downwelling shortwave which is not dependent on the PSP instrument: derived DS = down_short_diffuse + short_direct_normal * cos(zenith angle) |
