Description: | Prior to February 4, 2000, the ARSCL data set incorporated data from the Beaufort Laser Ceilometer as one of its inputs. Because of the BLC's high spatial resolution, this data was often chosen by ARSCL as the "CloudBaseBestEstimate" for boundary layer clouds. It was subsequently determined that the BLC cloud base was biased, with the BLC reporting cloud base heights that are 122 meters too high. The bias error will be corrected when the entire ARSCL data set is reprocessed as part of release_4. (The release version number is included the the netCDF global comments). This reprocessing will also include a small correction the the MMCR near-field reflectivities. This correction is less than 1 dB except for hydrometers within 200 meters of the surface. The profiler was placed into a constant high temporal and spatial resolution mode rather than alternating between modes as it does routinely. 30 min averages were produced (usually 60 min) at a 60 m gate resolution for both winds and RASS. Data were processed and archived, but the processing algorithm interpreted this data as 2 different power levels per hourly sample rather than 30 minute samples at the same power level. Data will be reprocessed. |

Description: | On Saturday and Sunday, December 26 and 27th a powerful winter storm (Goliath) brought sleet and freezing rain to much of Oklahoma with wind gusts of 45 MPH at times. The result was very very slick roads and mass power outages. The SGP central facility lost power at 8:55 PM CDT on Sunday, December 27th. The power was restored on 7:56 PM CDT on Wednesday, December 30th Site Emergency procedures were activated and Technicians drained water out of instrument reservoirs and other measures as needed, early Monday morning. On Wednesdays as roads and power started was restored to much of the areas east of I-35 , Site Technicians performed maintenance on several Extended Facilities. During this period, data are potentially missing, incorrect, or suspect. Carefully inspect the data before use. |
