Subject: | SGP/AERI/C1 - Time Offset Corrected |
DataStreams: | sgpaeri01ch1C1.a1 |
Description: | The SGP.C1 AERI system clock was not being regularly checked and synched with a time server between May 2001 and November 2001. When the problem was identified and the clock was corrected, a time offset of 17 minutes and 2 seconds (slow) was present. The data available from the ARM Archive have been time corrected by Dave Turner using a piece-wise linear function based on a comparison of pressure data from the AERI and SMOS. Dave indicates "this results in a good fit to the data" and "errors in the reported sample times are reduced to approximately 1 minute or less. Given the nominal three minute averaging period of the AERI, this should suffice for most applications." Data between 20011019.1615-20011029.1621 did not need to be corrected due to a series of events that caused the clock to be temporarily synched and then revert back to the linear drift pattern. Note, there are three other variables in the AERI data products which report time: Time, timeHHMMSS and rawTimeHHMMSS. The data in these variables were not modified, so these data will not agree with basetime + time_offset. Also note, VAPs which use the AERI data as input were NOT reprocessed. VAP data during the time period specified are questionable and should be used with caution. |

Subject: | SGP/AERI/C1 - Data Reprocessed to correct laser wavenumber |
DataStreams: | sgpaeri01ch1C1.a1 |
Description: | SGP.C1 AERI data from 20000302-20020510 have been reprocessed to correct for the spectral calibration; i.e., to correct the laser wavenumber. These data are now available from the ARM Archive. Data users who retrieved the previous version of this data from the archive should consider the following graphic to gauge the impact the correction might have on their analyses. vlaser_correction_example.png Note: only the ch1 and ch2 data were reprocessed; the summary data have not been recomputed. The summary data typically are 5 to 25 cm-1 spectral averages of the ch1 and ch2 data, and the effect of the spectral calibration on these averages should be negligible. |

DataStreams: | sgpaeri01ch1C1.a1 |
Description: | On January 8, 2005 the laser failed on the AERI-01. After it was repaired and during calibration, the cryogenic cooler and its spare also failed. The instrument has been off-line since the failure. |

Subject: | SGP/AERI/C1 - Housekeeping data fields disabled |
DataStreams: | sgpaeri01ch1C1.a1 |
Description: | After data collection resumed following an extended outage on 3/20/07, several housekeeping data fields failed maximum value checks. It was determined that a power event occurred on this day, disabling housekeeping board 2 of 3 in the SCE box. Scientifically relevant data continue to be valid. Disregard the housekeeping values when looking at data after 3/20/07: |

Subject: | SGP/AERI/C1 - Instrument |
DataStreams: | sgpaeri01ch1C1.a1 |
Description: | A problem was found with the new AERI in the optical trailer at the central facility. The climate controlled air from inside the optical trailer was penetrating into the AERI front-end under certain conditions, thereby contaminating the measurements in the atmospheric layer nearest the surface. Some cases have been found where the AERI-01 (adjacent to the new AERI) also showed this contamination. The symptoms are a ~15 min oscillation in observed radiance that correlates with the temperature inside the optical trailer. Note that data averaged over periods >~15 mins will be minimally affected. |
