Description:
The Cimel Internal Battery Voltage dropped below 5.0 V.
This caused satellite data transmissions to failed.  Therefore data are very sporadic 
during this time.  Collected data are probably usable.
The problem was aleviated for a two months period in Apr./May 2006, when the battery was 
replaced on or about 2006-03-27.
The problem recurred in June because the solar panels were corroded and unable to keep the 
battery charged.
The whole unit was replaced in Nov. 2006 and power is now provided by the site and data 
are transmitted via land-line.

The CSPHOT motors and electronics experienced problems at the extreme cold temperatures (< 
-25 C) experienced at Steamboat Springs during this period. There were alignment 
problems and InGaAs/Silicon Discrepancy errors reported during the period of 1/1/2011-1/11/2011. 
There were robot errors reported during the coldest days of 2/1-2/4. Some data may be 
missing during that time period. The instrument ultimately had a robot malfunction on 2/14.  

Low temperatures may have affected the calibration accuracy during this time period. This 
can also affect the cloud screened data (level 1.5,  sbscsphotaotfiltM1.a1 data).  The 
cloud screening may filter out more data than expected on clear days.

SGP Site Power Outage Due to Winter Storm

On Saturday and Sunday, December 26 and 27th a powerful winter storm (Goliath) brought 
sleet and freezing rain to much of Oklahoma with wind gusts of 45 MPH at times. The result 
was very very slick roads and mass power outages.
 
The SGP central facility lost power at 8:55 PM CDT on Sunday, December 27th.  
The power was restored on 7:56 PM CDT on Wednesday, December 30th
 
Site Emergency procedures were activated and Technicians drained water out of instrument 
reservoirs and other measures as needed, early Monday morning.
 
On Wednesdays as roads and power started was restored to much of the areas east of I-35 , 
Site Technicians performed maintenance on several Extended Facilities.

During this period, data are potentially missing, incorrect, or suspect.  Carefully 
inspect the data before use.

The instrument deployed during this period was lost on the way back to the US. Therefore, 
it could not be recalibrate as is customary. The differences between pre- and 
post-deployment calibrations for such a short deployment are typically quite small, 1%. But 
occasionally there are dramatic shifts that we now won't know about.
