Subject: TWP/ARSCL/C3 - Reprocess: MMCR Height offset affects ARSCL cloud boundaries
Affected Datastreams: twparsclbnd1clothC3.c1
Description MMCR heights were recorded as being too high by the following amounts: Mode 1: 24.8756 m too high Mode 2: 25.6249 m too high Mode 3: 33.1176 m too high Mode 4: 33.1176 m too high These errors may affect cloud boundaries that are determined by combining MMCR and MPL measurements; radar moments heights will be off by these amounts also. NOTE: reprocessing is underway. 20060101-20060228 have been reprocessed and archived. These data cover the period of TWP-ICE.
Measurements
  • Heights (Height of Measured Value)
  • CloudLayerBottomHeightMplCloth (Bottom Height of Hydrometeor Layer from Composite (MMCR/Clothiaux et al. MPL) Algorithms)
  • CloudLayerTopHeightMplCloth (Top Height of Hydrometeor Layer from Composite (MMCR/Clothiaux et al. MPL) Algorithms)
  • CloudLayerTopHeightMplCamp (Top Height of Hydrometeor Layer from Composite (MMCR/Campbell et al. MPL) Algorithms)
  • CloudLayerBottomHeightMplCamp (Bottom Height of Hydrometeor Layer from Composite (MMCR/Campbell et al. MPL) Algorithms)

Subject: TWP/ARSCL/C3 - Reprocess: ARSCL CloudBasePrecipitation field incorrect
Affected Datastreams: twpmmcrmode1bl200511041clothC3.c1
Description The CloudBasePrecipitation field is incorrect and has no physical meaning. An ARSCL processing error occurred when the smet60s data stream format changed, causing the wrong data field to be used to supply precipitation measurements to the ARSCL VAP. The error caused no significant degradation in other ARSCL fields, since manual quality control corrected any related errors.
Measurements
  • CloudBasePrecipitation (Microwave Radiometer Wet Window/Optical Rain Gauge Cloud Base Height)
